Thai House – Thai Cooking Class

9410001_origThe Thai House and Thai Cooking School have offered Home Stay accommodation and home style Thai Cooking Courses since 1990. Only 22 km from Bangkok city centre, stands a beautiful traditional Thai-style house built in golden teakwood.

Here, you will be treated as a friend of the family rather than a visitor.

What’s remarkable is that once you’ve completed a 2-day course at the Thai House cookery school, you’ll be able to prepare an entire, authentic and original dinner menu of your own.

Duration:    2 days / 1 night from Bangkok

Overview:       Bangkok – Khlong tour to Nonthaburi –
2 x Cooking Class – Bangkok

dsc04143-2The Thai House is the inspiration of the Fargrajang family which offers an attractive alternative to standard hotel accommodation. Pip Fargrajang and her family have opened their home to overseas visitors. You can enjoy learning the art of preparing Thai cuisine and visit the local market (activities), or simply relax and experience living the Thai way.

Since establishing the Thai House cooking school, Pip, a mother of three girls and according to them, the best chef of all time, has shared her experience, her love for cooking and her passion for Thai food with everyone visiting her kitchen.

Cooking classes are held in the family kitchen amidst an orchard of mango, banana, papaya and coconut trees, and a kitchen garden growing herbs and spices. These are the fresh ingredients used in cooking school recipes and the food you’ll enjoy during your stay.

Lessons, which are conducted in English feature brief lectures, ingredient preparation, cooking demonstrations and time for questions and discussion. Afterwards everyone literally enjoys the fruits of their success eating in the relaxed environment of The Thai House.

The main themes covered in courses are soups, salads, curry pastes, curried stir-fried dishes, and decorative fruit and vegetable carving. To ensure a productive session, in which all parties may enjoy a positive learning and dining experience, the maximum class size is limited to 10 participants per session.

For the 2 and 3-day courses an excursion to a traditional, local open-air market is part of the overall learning experience where you will learn how and which fresh ingredients to select. Discussion sessions during the course offer fascinating insights into Thai traditions. Pip also organises Thai cooking classes for those who are vegetarians or have food allergies.

Three separate houses symmetrically linked together, consistent with the traditional practice of keeping extended families living and working together in the same compound, creates a sense of belonging to the family.

As one stands on the first floor terrace with a view overlooking the orchard garden, the adjacent structures are no higher than the coconut palms. The tranquillity and natural beauty of the surrounding landscape is both striking and mesmerizing.

Each house has two rooms which can be used as a family suite or partitioned into two adjoining bedrooms. If partitioned the connecting door can be secured. Five windows which open out onto the vast lush gardens and verdant orchards provide ventilation. Gentle breezes from electric fans combat humidity and cool off the interior while the high ceiling promotes constant circulation of air thus eliminating the need for air-conditioning.

Visitors consistently mention the peaceful sleep they experience and the pleasure, the following morning, of hearing only bird song.

Adjacent to the sleeping quarters is a separate room serving as the Thai-style bath house which is additionally equipped with modern western-style facilities.

Dining Room
On the lower floor, there is an ample indoor dining hall with banquet-style seating for 30 to 50 persons. However breakfast and lunch are usually served on the sheltered outer patio area where the fresh country air gives most guests a healthy appetite.
