The Best Beaches of Koh Samui

Buriraya Beach - Koh SamuiWhen planning a visit to Koh Samui for the first time, you would do well to ask yourself at which beach you want to spend your time. Choosing a hotel on the wrong beach can ruin your whole holiday. We want to make it easier for you with our list of the best hotels. Each of the beaches has something different to offer, be it party mood, peaceful remoteness, many activities or just fine sand.

Chaweng Beach

Near the airport in the northeast of the island is Chaweng Beach. This beach is the largest and busiest on Koh Samui. Chaweng is known for its boisterous night life and as a party place. It is also home to Samui’s largest shopping centre, excellent hotels, restaurants, many activities and attractions. Chaweng is well suited for people who like to party and prefer a livelier beach. Here you will find a younger audience and if you are looking for tranquillity, you should avoid Chaweng because in the high season it can get very crowded.

Chaweng Noi Beach

South of Chaweng Beach is Chaweng Noi Beach. (Noi means small in Thai). The beach is far less crowded than its big brother is and there is not such a great concentration of hotels. This beach is cosier and a bit quieter. If you are looking for a fine beach with good restaurants and clear water, you are in the right place. Chaweng Noi is especially suitable for children, because the beach is clean and flat and there are no underwater currents. Here you can relax completely and still get to the city quickly if you need some more action.

Lamai Beach

Lamai Beach is Koh Samui’s second largest beach and the general atmosphere is more relaxed. Nevertheless, at Lamai Beach there is certainly no need to be bored, because there is a wide range of great restaurants, beach clubs, bars and spas. One famous attraction of Lamai and indeed the whole of Samui are the Grandmother and Grandfather rocks at the south end of the beach. The hotels in the area are usually somewhat older and cheaper than on the other coasts of Samui. Lamai Beach sand is a little coarse-grained, but the sea is still good for swimming.

Maenam Beach

If you are looking for calm and relaxation, you should definitely consider booking a resort on the beautiful Maenam Beach, which is located in the north of the island. Here you will find mainly bungalow resorts, but also some luxury resorts. There are a few small restaurants and mini-markets and a small village within walking distance. There is not a bar and party scene as at Chaweng and Maenam, which makes this beach a favourite for families and older holidaymakers. On the long clean beach, you can walk undisturbed and enjoy a family holiday under palm trees. If you are planning a longer holiday or an island hopping trip Maenam Beach is an ideal place to start or end your trip, since from here the Lompraya Catamaran connects Koh Samui with the neighbouring islands Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

Boput Beach

In the northeast of Koh Samui between Maenam and Chaweng Beach lies the best beach of the island. A beautiful and clean beach, Boput really has something for everyone. The visitor will find dozens of restaurants, beach activities, excursions, cheap bungalows, 5 star hotels, action and above all a beautiful clean beach. The beach shaped like a bay is a bit smaller than for example Maenam, but here you have everything in one place. One of the landmarks of Koh Samui *The Big Buddha* is nearby, as well as a go-kart track and many good seafood restaurants. Boput is suitable for both young and older guests. Everyone should be able to find a favourite place.
